Disney’s AI TV Ads Push Could Open CTV to Smaller Advertisers

Business Insider reported on June 17, 2026 that Disney is preparing a beta that would let smaller advertisers build connected-TV ads with AI inside its ad platform, with a launch expected in July and human oversight kept in the process. That may sound like another generative-AI workflow update, but the strategic signal is bigger. Connected TV has been attractive for brand-building and premium reach, yet many smaller teams still see it as too expensive, too slow, or too operationally heavy to use well.

If Disney can reduce the creative and production barrier without turning the channel into low-quality automation, CTV could become a more practical media option for brands that previously stayed in social and search because those platforms were easier to activate. The real story is not that AI can make another video. The story is that premium video inventory may start behaving more like an accessible performance channel.

Why this matters for media planning, not only production

For many advertisers, TV creative has been a gating factor. Even when the audience fit is strong, the workflow can be too slow for testing, localization, offer changes, or fast-turn seasonal campaigns. An AI-assisted setup changes that math. It can shorten the distance between media intent and usable creative, which means more teams can test CTV without committing to a full traditional production cycle first.

That matters because channel choice is often constrained by operational capability, not just by strategy. Plenty of brands would like the trust, sight-sound-motion effect, and household reach of premium streaming environments. Fewer can support the production process those environments usually require. If a major media owner makes ad creation easier inside the buying flow, CTV stops looking like a special-project channel and starts looking more like an expandable part of the media mix.
